Flavio Martins Rodrigues is one of Brazil’s leading specialists in the area of supplementary pensions, mainly focused on the operation of closed pension entities (pension funds).He also has solid experience in Civil Law, Civil Procedure and Tax Law, as well as experience in Alternative Dispute Resolution involving supplementary pensions. In his almost 40 years of practice, he has held a number of leadership positions in various renowned institutions, such as director-president of the Rio de Janeiro State Single Social Security Fund (RioPrevidência) and president of the Institute for the Certification of Social Security Professionals (ICSS).
He is a member of the International Pension & Employee Benefits Lawyers Association (IPEBLA), an association based in Canada. He is frequently invited to speak or mediate debates on issues related to supplementary pension entities at various institutions, including:Ministry of Social Welfare, National Superintendence of Complementary Welfare – PREVIC, Chamber of Deputies, Brazilian Association of Closed Complementary Welfare Entities (ABRAPP), National Insurance School Foundation (FUNENSEG), Brazilian Association of Financial and Capital Market Entities (ANBIMA), Rio de Janeiro State Judiciary School (EMERJ) and Federal Regional Judiciary School (EMARF).
He is the editor of Revista de Previdência (Editora Gramma) and author of the books “Fundos de Pensão de Servidores Públicos” (Pension Funds for Public Servants) and “Fundos de Pensão: Temas Jurídicos” (Pension Funds: Legal Issues) (Editora Renovar). He has also published several technical articles in specialized magazines and widely circulated newspapers, with passages cited in relevant judgments of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ). Internationally, he is the author of the Study on the Brazilian Complementary Pension System published in the journal A Comparative Survey of Pension Law Issues, published by IPEBLA in 2009, 2011, 2014 and 2017. He has also been a speaker at IPEBLA world conferences in Berlin, Brussels, Prague, Rome, Amsterdam and Milan.
